  • Principal Contractor: Australand
  • Landscape Architect: Patio Design - Jamie Durie

Designed by celebrity gardener Jamie Durie to encourage creativity and provide a place for Origin’s people to relax, interact and engage in a communal setting, this garden is located on the balcony of Level 7 at 271 Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne.

Inspired by the growing trend for green spaces within urban centres, the Top50 AXS Company Origin Energy aimed to create a sustainable and cost effective aesthetic green space for customer service staff.

Complete with drought-tolerant plants and incorporating a recycled water supply to irrigate the 200m2 of Semi Extensive Roof Garden, the garden used all local materials, namely scoria and composted bark fines, 10mm scoria mulch layer and an Australian native based plant palette.

As water conservation and dead load minimisation were high on the priority list for the client, a relatively slimline profile of 130mm was selected using the Fytogreen Roof Garden System. The roof comprised drainage cell, geofabric, Hydrocell RG30 flakes 50mm layer, sub-surface drip irrigation and a Hydrocell 40 layer of extensive garden media.
